Your Care Team
Patient care at Riverwest is multi-disciplinary. Specialists with varying educational backgrounds are involved in the radiation therapy planning process and delivery of treatments. The care team includes board certified radiation oncologists, oncology certified registered nurses, board certified medical radiation physicists, certified medical dosimetrists, registered radiation therapists and a center secretary.
Radiation Oncologist
A radiation oncologist is a physician who has received specialized training in radiation therapy to treat cancer.
Radiation Physicist
An expert that assists the radiation oncologist in planning and calculating the appropriate dosage of radiation for treatment. Also responsible for monitoring, maintaining and testing the radiation equipment used in radiation therapy.
Dosimetrist
Specialist who assists the physicist and radiation oncologist in planning and calculating the appropriate dosage of radiation for treatment.
Radiation Therapist
Licensed and trained professionals that deliver radiation treatments and ensure that the radiation is given exactly as prescribed by the radiation oncologist.
Radiation Therapy Nurse
Nurse who specializes in radiation therapy, including patient education and treatment of side effects.
Center Secretary
Assist in the patient’s care by scheduling appointments, gathering pertinent information for the patient’s record and maintaining the patient’s records.
